PTFE

PTFE, (polytetrafluoroethylene), is a non-stick material that works well in a wide variety of applications. It is available in sheet, rod, tube as well as film. PTFE is often used as a gasket material or in packaging for chemical processing equipment. The mechanical properties combined with its extreme slipperiness make it ideal for bearings, seals, and piston rings in mechanical applications. In addition PTFE is weather resistant, flexible, FDA/USDA compliant, non-flammable, it has a low dielectric constant, is chemically inert, and good at temperatures as low as -100°F. PTFE is one of the lowest coefficient of friction plastics.

PTFE Features:

  • Lowest coefficient of friction

  • Electrical and insulation properties

  • FDA / USDA compliant

  • Impact resistant

  • Non-flammable

  • Chemically inert

Filled PTFE

The mechanical properties or strength, stability, and wear of PTFE can be enhanced by the addition of fillers. A few of the filled PTFE materials include:

  • Glass fibers

  • Carbon

  • Graphite

  • Molybdenum disulphide

  • Bronze
